SCOTTSBLUFF PUBLIC SCHOOLS BEARCAT WELLNESS

SCOTTSBLUFF PUBLIC SCHOOLS EMPLOYEE WELLNESS

By Terry Allen

Scottsbluff Public Schools implemented Employee Wellness in April 2004, initially with a Walking Works program.  Since that time we've expanded and have done various wellness campaigns that are open to all Scottsbluff Public Schools staff, foster grandmothers, and substitutes.  Participation has been really good (anywhere from 30% to 40%) and very successful.

We just finished up with a 2008 with a variety of Wellness Programs.  With the 2008-2009 school year we will start off the fall program with two different programs to fit the needs of our employees.

1.  America On the Move "Steptember" Online physical activity program that begins on August 18th through September 19th (6 weeks).

2.  Be Healthy Bingo - this is a easy pen and paper program that begins on August 25th through September 19th.(4 weeks).

With our new web site, the wellness page(s) will be updated with weekly news and information about our programs.  The campaign brochures and news are all available on our web site under "wellness"."wellness/employee".

In the past we have incorporated other things besides walking in to our program.  Last year we also offered a Blood Screening for all employees and their spouses.  We will again offer that later on in the year.  A couple other great programs will be

1.  Tai Chi Classes

2.  Weight Management Support groups
